Nassau Golf FAQ

Everything you need to know
about Nassau golf.

What is a Nassau in golf?

A Nassau is one of the most popular golf betting formats in the world. It's actually three separate matches played simultaneously — one for the front nine, one for the back nine, and one for the full 18 holes. Each match is worth its own stake, so there are three separate payouts at the end of the round.

How does Nassau golf scoring work?

Nassau scoring uses match play format — players or teams compete hole by hole rather than counting total strokes. Win a hole and you go 1 UP. Lose a hole and you go 1 DOWN. Tie a hole and the match stays All Square. At the end of each nine and the full 18, whoever is UP wins that portion of the bet.

What is a press in golf betting?

A press is a side bet that starts a new match within the existing round. When a player is down by a set number of holes (typically 2), they can "press" — starting a fresh match for the remaining holes of that nine. Presses add extra action and give the losing side a chance to recover some money. A round can have multiple presses running simultaneously.

How do handicaps work in a Nassau?

Handicap strokes are allocated by Stroke Index (SI) — the ranking of each hole by difficulty. The higher-handicap player receives strokes on the hardest holes. For example, a player with a Handicap Index of 10 receives one stroke on holes ranked SI 1 through SI 10. Net score (gross score minus strokes received) is used to determine hole winners. PressBookie calculates and applies all strokes automatically.

What is 4-Ball Nassau?

4-Ball Nassau is the team version of Nassau, played with two teams of two players each (Team A vs Team B). Each team uses the better ball of their two players on each hole. It's the most common format for a foursome and is the default format in PressBookie. Singles Nassau is the 1v1 version.

How do you calculate Nassau payouts?

Each of the three matches (front nine, back nine, total 18) pays out its own stake. If you set a $5 Nassau, the winner of the front nine collects $5, the winner of the back nine collects $5, and the winner of the total match collects $5 — for a maximum swing of $15 plus any press winnings. PressBookie calculates every press result and net settlement automatically so there's no math at the end of the round.

What is an automatic press in golf?

An automatic press is a pre-agreed rule that a new press starts automatically whenever a player or team falls behind by a certain number of holes — usually 2 down. This removes the need to declare a press manually and keeps the match moving. PressBookie supports both automatic and manual presses.

What is the best app for tracking Nassau golf?

PressBookie is built specifically for Nassau golf — it handles handicap stroke allocation, automatic press tracking, live round sharing, and instant payout calculation all in one place. Unlike generic golf scorecards, PressBookie is designed from the ground up for match play betting formats.
